    1. Josh, I had no idea you were battling cancer and you are very brave to share your story with everyone and be so open and candid about everything you are going through right now. I don’t think I have talked to you since high school, but I have such happy memories of you and how you always made everyone around you laugh. Your spirit and positive attitude will be exactly what gets you through this and heals you. I am a strong believe in the power of the mind over the body and what extraordinary things one can accomplish with positive thinking. Your three boys are absolutely adorable and your wife, who is your rock, is an amazing woman. My best friend just beat cancer this year after being diagnosed the same day as the birth of her baby girl. I watched her go through chemo, a double mastectomy, radiation and countless procedures and tests. She never stopped being positive and she beat the hell of out cancer. I know you will too. I will be praying and thinking about you and your family. You got this!

Your best friend’s story just gave me the chills and even more strength. Thank you so much for sharing. It has me pumped up!

This curve ball for me has changed so much in such a short period of time. While I have always been the type of person to wear my heart on my sleeve, the fact that I am writing down my raw emotions and feelings for everyone to read is very different. Sometimes it feels amazing. Other times I feel exposed. But I am just going to keep rolling with it.

I too have happy memories of you and growing up from any years ago and I am so glad that you reached out to share this uplifting message with me. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to staying in touch.

So damn good to hear from you. You are spot on. But “intersection” is an understatement! We were everywhere together. Everywhere. And I hope you know I have gotten updates about you from various sources along the way. By all accounts, you are doing amazing. No surprise whatsoever.

I really appreciate your note and your thoughts. It means a lot coming from you as I always had the utmost respect and admiration for you. I hope we stay in touch. Best to you and your family.

      1. Hurray for Takajo! We’ve been visiting my nephews for the past few summers at Wildwood and my niece, finally, this past summer at Mataponi. Every reason to get up to Maine in the summer is a good reason. So crazy that your son is going this year, especially since it feels like WE were just there a few years ago. *cough cough* we’re still young! So great to hear from you. Intersect is a total understatement, but I needed word! Sending you all big hugs. xo

        1. Amazing. Rick’s, the Lobster Pound, maybe even the Bounty (that was the best social of the summer) — I don’t know if there will be enough time to hit all of my favorite spots in Maine. I am planning to go for father son weekend too (praying that I feel up to it). If you are there when we are we will get together. I just realized I have not been back to Maine in 17 years!

Unfortunately, this along with everything else this year has given us a lot of trying to find “meaning and purpose” in our lives. With your perseverance and amazing attitude, you will get through it. And I know it’s not easy-believe me, I know how it feels when the doctor can’t make any guarantees or when bad thoughts can overtake you. But please know you are doing an incredible, amazing job and I am so rooting for you and your family to get through it. Don’t ever forget- you are a warrior!!!!!!
If ever you want to chat, I would be happy to talk with you.

    1. Robyn, thank you so much for reaching out. This is incredible. You are a warrior and we are rooting for you! Sorry you have to deal with everything you are dealing, but in just this short note I get the sense you are playing offense and attacking this. That is awesome. Wishing you the best of luck with the treatments to come and sending you positive thoughts/prayers. You will win.

By the way, what a small world. I saw Michael at a baseball game for my oldest son and his middle nephew (who are really good buddies). I asked one of the fathers who his son was because he looked familiar! I walked over at the end of the game and said I was sure we knew each other from Syracuse. Probably had not seen each other in 16 years. [He now knows why I didn’t shake his hand, which I am sure seemed strange at the time!] And none of us ever put one and two together to figure out that the kids were close and he was Uncle Michael. Crazy.

Appreciate you reaching out and the offer to chat. That would be great. Stay in touch.

  29. Josh,

Been following the blog and wanted to send a note letting you know I am thinking of you; very inspiring story and I love the passion of each entry you write. Been years, but great to see all the photos and have all the confidence in the world you will beat this. I work in Oil & Gas by the way, so once you are back at work perhaps we will cross paths professionally or at a minimum for some drinks in Houston (I live in Australia these days but still get back to Houston frequently). Stay strong my friend and keep up the great attitude, you have an army behind you on this one.

    1. Greg! Long time no speak. Hope your family is well. And please send my best to your folks. Seems like it was 2 days ago we were hanging out xmas time at Boca West by the “adult p0ol.”

We should definitely add up on oil and gas. I normally spend a lot of time in Houston and we have a great office down there. I will introduce you to some folks next time you are in town.

Heading to Rosner’s in a few weeks for another Samofest. Will ping you. I think Bedrin, Grant and Kindy will be there. I spoke to Grant last week and get to see Kindy from time to time.

Speak to soon. Really appreciate you reaching out.

    1. Thanks much Kelly. Doing well all things considered. And my doctor’s have done a good job managing the side effects. Just a grind at this point….

Hope all is well with you. Good to be in touch.

  31. Hey Josh. My family moved and sent me a box of my stuff. Totally random, I found pics of you and looked you up to find this blog! I was from Cleveland but I think we knew each other from SR
I’m so sorry for all you have gone thru. You are definitely in my prayers!
I would like to send you a direct email to talk about some important stuff but don’t have your email. Can you please contact me?
p.s. Wasn’t it you that stood up with 2 balls running for student president and told everyone you had “the balls to be president” ?!? If you got a prank call with a recording of “goodness gracious great balls of fire” that was from me! ; )

    1. Thanks for your note. Not sure who this is? Feel free to send me an email and I can get in touch. But not sure how to send you a direct email….

Appreciate the prayers and support. My brother gave that speech (he had a good ghost writer). Didn’t get the voice message, but definitely like the thought….

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I can’t imagine all the challenges you have had to hurdle through. You are such a strong and spirited person and I can tell by your blog that you are still that same guy from high school that always had a positive spirit and embraced life to the fullest. I wish you and your family only the best. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. Happy New Year!!

    1. It certainly has been a long time! 20 years? I hope that all is well on your end.

Really appreciate the kind words and support. Quite a ride, but had an unbelievable support network around (led by my wife) to make it all possible. Definitely proud and excited to get back to normal. Stay in touch and thanks for reaching out.
